WELCOME TO ST ANDREWS 2012

The university town of St Andrews is an exceptionally attractive location for an event of this sort. Our proposal is supported by the University of St Andrews Music Centre and Vice Principal. The university's beautiful main concert hall seats nearly 1000 and we have convenient rehearsal facilities, a wide variety of performance venues of all sizes, and plentiful accommodation and restaurants all within easy walking distance in this charming and ancient coastal town. Our proposal is supported by the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, other UK conservatoires such as the Royal College of Music, The Royal Northern College of Music, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, leading soloists and composers, the National Saxophone Choir of Great Britain and the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain. We expect full support from the instrument manufacturing and retail industries, the music publishing industry, as well as support from major international companies based in Scotland and the rest of the UK. Local and national government and arts council support is also anticipated.

The University of St Andrews gives its full support to this bid to host the World Saxophone Congress in the year 2012, which coincides with the University’s 600th anniversary celebrations and with the Olympic Games in London. The University Music Centre offers its services, facilities and hospitality for the Congress. We are able to provide top quality orchestra, symphonic wind band and jazz bands for gala evening performances. We are planning national saxophone events in 2010 and 2011 as a preparation for the XVI Congress and will put into place a series of educational events which will culminate in 2012, providing a sustainable musically enriched future for our young musicians well beyond that event.
